Summary:Business executive Debra L. Lee was born on August 8, 1955 in Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Lee attended Brown University where she received her B.A. degree in political science with an emphasis in Asian politics in 1976. Lee then attended Harvard University where she simultaneously earned her M.A. degree in public policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and her J.D. degree from Harvard Law School in 1980. She subsequently served as a law clerk to the late Honorable Barrington Parker of the U. S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Lee later joined the D.C. firm of Steptoe & Johnson where she was a regulatory lawyer for five years. In 1986, Lee joined Black Entertainment Television (BET Networks) as vice president and general counsel. She was in charge of strategic business development in 1995. In 2005, Lee became the company's chairman and chief executive officer.
