At the age of twenty-six, Bryant founded Operation HOPE immediately following the acquittal of the police officers accused of beating Rodney King, a decision that triggered the L.A. Riots of 1992. Operation HOPE, Inc. is a non-profit, public benefit, investment banking organization. It is composed of a national network of inner-city banking centers called HOPE Centers, that serve low-wealth communities by offering hope and focusing on converting check cashing customers into banking customers. Bryant is the author of Banking on our Future: A Program for Teaching You and your Kids about Money. In 2004, President George W. Bush appointed Bryant vice-chairman of the President's Council on Financial Literacy. His appointment was renewed and extended by President Barack Obama in 2010.
