In 1960, he moved to New York City and took a position at Winston-Muss Corporation as director of employee relations. In 1970, he became national distribution manager for Sears Roebuck and Company. He completed his education with a B.A. degree in economics and business management, from Fordham University in 1975, and served as vice president of Brooklyn, New York's chapter of the NAACP. After retiring from Sears in 1993, Walker went on to serve as founder and director of the New Coalition for Economic and Social Change in Chicago, Illinois and to write a column for Crain's Chicago Business, a weekly business magazine. In addition, he served as vice president and senior fellow with the Heartland Institute. | ||
