Summary:Marketing executive Melvin Hart was born on January 7, 1952 in Saint Matthews, South Carolina. Hart is the son of Cleola Kimpson Hart and Furman "Toot" Hart, one of the founders of the local branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and a worker at the Savannah River Site. He attended Guinyard Elementary, a segregated African American elementary school, but in eighth grade, was part of a group of African American students that integrated Saint Matthews High School. He was one of five African Americans to graduate from Saint Matthews High School in 1970. He was the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Advertising at South Carolina Black Media Group, "Black News" and served as the director. The organization serves the African American population in South Carolina's forty-six counties. In 2005, Hart served on the Columbia Foundation Board of Trustee.
