520 |a Non profit executive Naomi T. Gray was born Naomi Jean Thomas on May 18, 1922 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She graduated from Crispus Attacks High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1940 and from Hampton University with her B.S. degree in sociology in 1945. Three years later, she obtained her M.S. degree from Indiana University in Indianapolis. Gray joined Planned Parenthood in 1950, and she later became the first woman vice president of the national Planned Parenthood. In 1971, Gray formed a management consulting group, Naomi Gray Associates. She served as an instructor in the department of social work at San Francisco State University, as the president of the Urban Institute for American Affairs, Inc. and as executive director of the Sojourner Truth Foster Family Service Agency. Gray was active in community groups including the National Urban League, and was honored as an Indiana Distinguished Citizen. Gray passed away on December 29, 2007 at age 85.
