| 520 | |a Foundation executive and lawyer Sanford Cloud, Jr. was born November 27, 1944, in Hartford, Connecticut. He attended the University of Arizona and Howard University, where he earned his B.A. degree in 1964; and his J.D. degree from Howard University Law School in 1969. In 1992, Cloud earned his M.A. degree in religious studies from Hartford Seminary. In 1969, he was hired by the law firm of Robinson and Cole as their first African American attorney. In 1976, Cloud was elected to the Connecticut state senate. He served for two terms then formed his own firm, Cloud and Ibarguen. Cloud became vice president of public involvement and head of the Aetna Foundation in 1986. He became the first African American president and CEO of the National Conference for Community Justice in 1994, where he served for a decade. He served on several boards of directors, including Northeast Utilities and The Phoenix Company. | ||
