Summary:Business executive Donald C. Richards was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 24, 1938. Richards earned his B.A. degree in anthropology from the University of Chicago in 1959. After teaching at a Chicago high school for a year, he returned to the University of Chicago to earn his M.A. degree in history. Following three years as a systems manager at IBM, he launched a thirty-year career in advertising. For twenty-two years Richards worked for Leo Burnett Worldwide, one of the world's largest ad agencies. He became the company's first African American vice president and managed the agency's global diversity program. Richards worked as president of D.C. Richards & Associates, an ad firm specializing in multicultural marketing, before later becoming the associate national director of affirmative action and diversity for the New York-based Screen Actors Guild.
