520 |a This is a charming documentary about adolescent girls who had to deal with an unexpected complication in their suburban life. Their mother suddenly dissolved her marriage and then told the girls in strictest confidence that she was a lesbian. This secret made them feel isolated from their friends and especially from their father who was not privy to this information. The oldest sister, Juliette, made this funny and poignant video which reveals their coming to terms with their mother s new sexual identity. It captures their initial shock, embarrassment and anger. They tried to make sense out of their parents former life together. " Did you ever love daddy?", they want to know. But as time went on, the sisters relaxed about their mother s new lifestyle. They understood that now she was true to herself and happier. When the ban of secrecy was lifted their friends were accepting, and even thought their mom was "cool." They came to realize that their own heterosexuality was not threatened. Now they are activists for gay rights and march proudly with their mother.
