Description
Summary:In this completed first chapter of the YA historical fiction novel Firebrand, a sheltered young woman living in Civil War Atlanta sneaks out from the watchful eye of her father, only to discover that the realities of the war are more dire and complicated than she could have imagined. The girl, Delia, was burned badly as an infant, and has retained a connection with the fire. It is never far from her mind. Because of her conspicuous scarring, her father is very overprotective and refuses to tell her any details about the raging war. Her only source of news has been her brother, who left three years ago to join the Confederate Army, and she's not sure that he's been completely honest with her.
