Although these two professions share a similar purpose, they have developed independently of one another and failed to identify or capitalize on collaborative opportunities to improve the context of the built environment through the use of original architectural records. Through a discussion of the progression of the American historic preservation movements (1850-1940 and 1950-present) and the development of the Massachusetts Committee for the Preservation of Architectural Records (massCOPAR), this research explores the missed opportunities for these preservation and archival communities to engage in symbiotic collaboration.
