For the purpose of this investigation, data collection is defined as a system that accurately and consistently quantifies a student's behavior on a longitudinal basis. This dissertation compared data collected by a dedicated observer to regular rankings of student behavior collected by general education teachers. The analysis indicated that a visual analysis of the longitudinal trends in both sets of the data could be most beneficial to behavioral consultants who work with general education teachers. This study could add to the decision making process a public school consultant uses by inserting the step of establishing this type of data collection system into the consultative process.
