|Started in 1903 as the Massachusetts State Conference of Charities, the name changed to Massachusetts Conference of Social Work in 1918, Massachusetts Conference on Social Welfare in 1961, and Massachusetts Association to Advance Human Services in 1972. The Association disbanded in 1974. The purpose of the Conference was to provide a forum for charity workers, and later social workers, to discuss problems and innovations in social work. The records document the developing interests of the social work profession in the United States, especially in Massachusetts and Boston. Materials in the collection include conference reports and minutes, financial records, committee reports and minutes, annual conference papers and programs, regional conference programs, scrapbooks and clippings.
