Summary:The Edith Lynn Hornik-Beer (ELH-B) papers include correspondence, drafts of articles, articles, manuscripts, questionnaires, notebooks and books by this Swiss born free-lance author. While the correspondence is predominately professional in nature there are some personal letters. The correspondence also includes a few letters from ELH-B to Tennessee Williams regarding a proposed article about him. The published and unpublished articles co ver a wide range of subjects including travel, alcoholism, and local activities. Also included are reprints of ELH-B's column ""Young world"", an advice column for adolescents that she published between 1964 and 1967 in the Scarsdale inquirer and the Riverdale press. The manuscripts include both published and unpublished works. Manuscripts for both of ELH-B's published books, You and your alcoholic parent and The Drinking woman, are included and are accompanied by research notes and questionnaires used in a survey of female alcoholics. Although ELH-B is a 1954 graduate of the Simmons College Prince School of Retailing this period of her life is not documented in this collection. Boxes 4-7 contain ELH-B accession # 2006.00 papers. These include research notes and materials for articles authored by ELH-B, drafts, proofs, and published copies of these articles, as well as contractual and logistical information regarding courses taught by ELH-B, personal and professional correspondence, newspaper articles, and photographs. The articles cover a wide variety of topics, including alcoholism, travel/tourism, gardening, the circus, banking, and finance. This accession compliments and contains materials similar to the ELH-B collection currently maintained by the Simmons College Archives [MS 001]. Of particular note in this accession is the large amount of materials, including research, notes, drafts, and proofs relating to the writing and publication of ELH-B s Monarch s Dictionary of Investment Terms, information about which is not contained in the earlier accessions to this collection. This accession is arranged alphabetically by folder title, reflecting the working or published title of the article work contained therein, and is to be integrated with the remainder of the collection at a later time.
