Summary:The records of Garland Junior College, a private urban college for women which offered Associate in Science degrees in Homemaking and Art, include class registers, course material, student and employee records, correspondence, manuals, project reports, memos, pamphlets, news releases, news clippings, scrapbooks, photographs, memorabilia, audio material, and faculty committee and meeting minutes. The material is arranged in twenty-nine series that cover the broad range of material in the collection. The material mainly contains administrative information concerning accreditation, admissions, and financial records; alumnae associations; courses and student work; and Sarah Broadrick-Allen's records from her term as acting President, 1975-1976. The photographs in the collection contain numerous pictures of the Victorian interiors of the buildings Garland occupied on Boston's Commonwealth Avenue. Publications include the catalog, yearbooks, handbooks, Alumni magazine, Garland today, Sweepings, and the alumni directory. Audio materials include tapes and cassettes of commencement and other notable speeches and a record album of the Garland singing group, Notables, President Viaux's papers include correspondence, speeches and addresses, and files on GJC events. Also included (unprocessed) are Development files on students' parents, 1960s and 1970s, and some publications and biographical updates on Garland faculty and staff. Also includes records of the Chandler School.
