science fiction

panpsychism

affect

subjectivity
. He earned a B.A. in English in 1975, M.A. in English in 1978, and a Ph.D. in English in 1981, all from
Yale University
. From 1984 to 2004, he was a professor of English at the
University of Washington
, and since 2004 teaches film, culture and English at
Wayne State University
, where he is the DeRoy Professor of English.
